Inspirational ARU students to receive their degrees

Graduation ceremonies will take place at Cambridge Corn Exchange from 10-12 July

Students from Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) will cross the stage to receive their degrees at summer graduation ceremonies in Cambridge from Monday, 10 July until Wednesday, 12 July. 
 
Approximately 2,500 students will graduate across eight ceremonies at the Cambridge Corn Exchange over the course of the three days. 
 
ARU will also bestow honorary degrees on several distinguished guests, who will address students during ceremonies. 
 
Cambridge-based tech entrepreneur and philanthropist Peter Cowley will receive the award of Honorary Doctor of Business Administration on Monday, 10 July. Peter has founded 14 companies, invested in 76 start-ups, and personally mentored many hundreds of entrepreneurs. Peter is a Fellow in Entrepreneurship at the Cambridge Judge Business School, and a Freeman of the City of London. He has also volunteered as chair, treasurer and trustee on the boards of numerous charities. 
 
Professor Sanduk Ruit will receive the award of Honorary Doctor of Science at a ceremony on Tuesday, 11 July. Professor Ruit is an eminent ophthalmologist and eye surgeon, humanitarian, and founder of The Himalayan Cataract Project and The Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology. Professor Ruit has saved or restored the sight of over 150,000 people and counting. In 2021, he launched the Tej Kohli & Ruit Foundation, with philanthropist Mr Tej Kohli – with the mission to screen one million people and cure 300,000 people of cataract blindness by 2026. 
 
Also on Tuesday, 11 July, Dr David Cleevely CBE will receive the award of Honorary Doctor of Technology. A former chair of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, Dr Cleevely has made significant contributions to the success of Cambridge, having been a co-founder and Chair of Cambridge Network, Cambridge Wireless, Cambridge Angels, and co-founder of Cambridge Ahead. He was the Founding Director of the Centre for Science and Policy at the University of Cambridge and was Chair of its Advisory Council until 2018. He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire for services to technology and innovation in 2013.
