Kathmandu is the historic center and the capital city of Nepal. It lies at 1350m and has a population of about five million. Kathmandu city, which is surrounded by green hills, Scattered around the Kathmandu Valley are hundreds of temples and shrines, traditional villages, and agriculture scenes of timeless beauty. Nepali is the language of the city; English is understood and spoken by a few people.

The Kathmandu Valley has a pleasant climate most of the year. October - March is winter and can become quite cold at night and the days become short, although it is warm and sunny between mid-morning and afternoon. May - September is considered the best month to visit Kathmandu. Light Clothing for summer and sweeten and jacket for winter is recommended
Local food is quite spicy but continental, Chinese and other kinds of food are available in the restaurant at the city center. Fruits are available round the year.
Several nationalized banks are close to Tilganga. Most banks have Automated Teller Machine (ATMs) and accept credit and debit cards that can be used to withdraw money.
There are standard guest rooms available at Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology (TIO) with kitchen facilities. A small fee is charged for the accommodation. Those with special needs will be helped in finding accommodation within the city.
