Sydney Hiker Alexander at TIO
On February 12, 2023, Australian hiker Alexander Campbell, who stepped from the Opera House in Sydney, arrived in Nepal. In the mission to raise funds for The Fred Hollows, he is on a journey targetted walking 40,000 kilometers through 30 countries and four continents to raise funds for the Foundation. In the last year and a half, apart from Australia, he has traveled to Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Iceland, Bangladesh, India, and Nepal. Alexander visited the Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology and also met Dr. Sanduk Ruit. Expressing his happiness that Dr. Ruit wished him well for his journey, he shared his experience of visiting the hospital and observing the actual conditions of eye treatment closely. As the money collected from the walk is for the foundation's partner organization, Fred Hallows Foundation, he expects it to help the visually impaired people in Nepal. Crossing Asia, which has the largest number of blind people in the world, is another interesting part of Campbell's journey. Campbell, who is a long distance trekker, has already completed the 800km Colorado Trail, 1600km Great Himalaya Trail and 3750km trek from Flinders Range to Sydney.
