WHO has recognized TIO as its Collaborating Centre for Ophthalmology
The World Health Organization (WHO) has recognized Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology (TIO), an implementing body of the Nepal Eye Program, as its Collaborating Centre for Ophthalmology in Nepal on 22nd July 2019. The announcement was made on the occasion of the 25th anniversary function of TIO organized in the TIO.
Jos Vandelaer, WHO representative to Nepal, handed over the recognition certificate to Reeta Gurung, chief executive officer of the institution, during the event. TIO is the first WHO collaborating centre in Nepal in the field of ophthalmology.
WHO has provided this status to the institution for its significant contribution to eye care service delivery, education and training in the field of ophthalmology, and ophthalmic research.
Addressing the 25th anniversary of TIO, Rt. Hon’ble Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said that Dr Sanduk Ruit, executive director of TIO, had reminded all Nepali people of the nation’s proud tradition.
